According to One Hour Translation’s Globalization Index, following the revolutions in Egypt and Libya, a 31% increase in demand was noted for translations from English to Arabic and vice versa. Further, following the nuclear and humanitarian crisis in Japan, an increase in demand for Japanese – English translations – particularly for translations of short texts (ie: emails, tweets and letters).

Nicosia, Cyprus (PRWEB) May 04, 2011

One Hour Translation, the leading professional translation service on the Internet, identified a number of trends and changes occurring during the course of last year regarding the demand for translations in certain languages in light of global crises, such as the economic crisis in Greece, revolutions in the Arab world and the nuclear disaster in Japan.

The company identified these trends using its “Globalization Index”, which it established in order to anticipate the changing demand for certain languages and make arrangements with translators accordingly.

Ofer Shoshan, CEO of One Hour Translation, observed, “The field of translation is directly influenced by current events occurring throughout the world. With the help of the changes we identify regarding the demand for translations in certain languages, it is also possible to anticipate and evaluate the need for translators in those languages.”

Most of the changes that were identified by One Hour Translation’s Globalization Index were related to translations into Arabic and Japanese, in accordance with world events. Shoshan explained, “The index is based on real-time data, which includes the tens of thousands of translation projects executed by One Hour Translation on behalf of our business customers from all over the globe.”

According to One Hour Translation’s Globalization Index, since the start of the revolutions in Egypt and Libya, a 31% increase was noted in the volume of English to Arabic translations and vice versa. This sharp increase in demand for translations was noted in the areas of communications and business: a 50% increase in translations in the field of communications and media, along with a 45% increase in demand for financial and business translations. An additional increase of 20% was noted in demand for French-Arabic translations. It is notable that the events in Syria have specifically not yet brought about any change in demand for translations.

Furthermore, following the recent tsunami and nuclear crises in Japan, a moderate 17% increase was noted in English to Japanese translations and vice versa, which consisted mostly of short texts, letters and emails (a 22% increase). An additional increase of 13% was noted in financial/business translations. One Hour Translation estimates that the increase in demands for translations into and from Japanese remained moderate due to the relatively limited international aid received by Japan in comparison to aid given in other similar global crises.

About One Hour Translation Ltd:

One Hour Translation is the web’s leading Professional Translation Service provider, providing high quality expert translation services (http://www.onehourtranslation.com/) to thousands of business customers worldwide, 24/7 thanks to a community of over 10,000 certified translators from all over the world.
21st Century Technologies is looking for 6 Computer Programmers to join our team in Northern VA supporting the Dept of Labor. Please visit www.21technologies.com for additional information.

The Computer Programmer performs programming services for establishments or for outside organizations that may contract for services, converts specifications (precise descriptions) about business or scientific problems into a sequence of detailed instructions to solve problems by electronic data processing (EDP) equipment, i.e. digital computers; draws program flow charts to describe the processing of data, and develops the precise steps and processing logic which, when entered into the computer in coded language (COBOL, FORTRAN, or other programming language) to cause the manipulation of data to achieve desired results. The Computer Programmer tests and corrects programs, prepares instructions for operators who control the computer during runs, modifies programs to increase operating efficiency or to respond to changes in work processes, and maintains records to document program development and revisions.
At levels I, II and III, Computer Programmers may also perform programming analysis such as: gathering facts from users to define their business or scientific problems, and to investigate the feasibility of solving problems through new or modified computer programs; developing specifications for data inputs, flow, actions, decisions, and outputs; and participating on a continuing basis in the overall program planning along with other EDP personnel and users. In contrast, at level IV, some programming analysis must be performed as part of the programming assignment. The analysis duties are identified in a separate paragraph at levels I, II, III, and IV.

Westat is where experts come to make a difference in their field, by identifying complex problems and then solving them. As one of the foremost contract research organizations in the United States, we can give your research a national platform. For more than four decades, we have worked behind the scenes to provide high-quality research to the private sector and Federal, state, and local governments. Although our name may be unfamiliar to you, our work is not. We are behind some of the most significant research being conducted by organizations like the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and many other organizations.

As a Health Care Researcher for Quality Improvement in our Health Services and Health Outcomes Research Area you will have a hand in shaping and expanding our nursing research studies. Ours is a multidisciplinary research group that works to support a national network that is aimed at accelerating inter-professional improvement science in a systems context. In your role as Health Care Researcher for Quality Improvement, you will work on nationally visible research projects. You will develop and design studies (including the application of an array of research methodologies), lead research teams, oversee the direction of projects (including the management of any changes in goals or priorities), and create the necessary tools and support products for the client. Most of your research will occur across multiple hospital sites, evaluating health care service delivery, quality, and patient safety improvement.

Coming in the door, there are two active projects where you will be able to make immediate contributions: the first project is focused on accelerating inter-professional improvement in a systems context across multiple sites while improving the quality and safety of patient care and enhancing the translation of research findings into nursing care; the second seeks to improve health care quality and reduce disparities on a national level through the use of evidence-based innovations and QualityTools. You will have the opportunity to be a lead investigator as you help to navigate confidently through changing priorities that invariably occur throughout the course of a study. In addition to listening to, understanding, and guiding the needs of the client, you will guide the members of the research team to reach intended quality outcomes. Working here, there are a lot of resources and a wide range of skill and expertise within the Health Services and Health Outcomes Research Area (as well as across the organization). Your ability to draw upon those resources, build relationships (within Westat, and across our clients and partner agencies) will support your success in this role.

In this role you will also be responsible for prospecting new grants and proposals, and for writing grants and responding to request for proposal opportunities. As we build out our nursing research studies, we will look to you to continuously collaborate with the research team and to track and identify new proposals. Ideally, within year one, you will have procured your first grant (typically a project within a 250K-500K range).

This is a regular full-time position, not a contract position tied to any one specific project. Working within a shared-team environment, you will typically work on one to three projects throughout any given year. Your projects may vary in scope, ranging multi-year, multi-center projects requiring long-term planning, to projects that focus on short term support.

Health Services and Health Outcomes Research Area Overview

Westat’s Health Services and Health Outcomes Research Area has been in the forefront of data collection regarding issues of cost and use of health care, access to care, and patient satisfaction with health plans and services, as well as patient safety issues. We use an array of methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative. Our team is composed of nationally known experts in health care delivery and innovation.

Here are some examples of our other projects/work:

Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®). The CAHPS program, funded and administered by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), is a public-private initiative that develops and supports the use of a comprehensive and evolving family of standardized surveys that ask consumers and patients to report on and evaluate their experiences with health care. These surveys cover topics that are important to consumers, such as the communication skills of providers and the accessibility of services. Health care organizations, public and private purchasers, consumers, and researchers use CAHPS results to assess the patient-centeredness of care; compare and report on performance; and improve quality of care. The program generates tools and resources that can be used to produce understandable and usable comparative information for both consumers and health care providers.

Surveys on Patient Safety Culture (SOPS). Funded by AHRQ, the Surveys on Patient Safety Culture are a suite of surveys that assess provider and staff opinions about patient safety culture in hospitals, outpatient medical offices, and nursing homes. The newest SOPS survey for community pharmacy services is under development to be pilot tested in 2011 and released in 2012. The purpose of the SOPS program is to provide tools to help health care facilities meet the challenge of moving toward a safer health care system. In addition to the development of standardized, evidenced-based surveys that health care facilities can use to assess and track patient safety culture, AHRQ’s SOPS program includes support materials such as survey user’s guides, comparative databases and reports, data entry and analysis tools, and other free resources and technical assistance for survey users. The databases produce annual Comparative Database Reports that provide information that organizations can use to compare their patient safety culture survey results with other health care facilities.

AHRQ Healthcare Innovations Exchange. Under a contract with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Westat designs and maintains the AHRQ Health Care Innovations Exchange. The Innovations Exchange is a multipronged initiative that aims to promote the dissemination, adoption, and implementation of novel methods of delivering care that improve outcomes and reduce disparities in health and health care. The intended audience of the Innovations Exchange encompasses all health care change agents (including clinicians, health administrators, and researchers) in various health care settings. The Exchange features a web-based information hub (www.innovations.ahrq.gov) focused on successful innovative health care practices that are summarized in structured Innovation Profiles. The initiative also includes Innovation Attempts—efforts that did not achieve intended outcomes but provide important lessons learned for others. More than 570 Innovations and Attempts and 1,570 QualityTools are currently available on the Web site, with more published biweekly. The Web site is complemented by activities that promote networking and exchange among its users. The Innovations Exchange also offers a variety of learning and networking opportunities (i.e., Web events and discussion forums) that seek to facilitate the adoption and implementation of innovations in various health care settings. The Exchange supports an intensive learning network focused on community care coordination.

Key Responsibilities as Health Care Researcher for Quality Improvement
